While part of Motorsport Network I had the fantastic opportunity to direct production of graphics and video for the prestigious Autosport awards. Producing a bespoke graphics package for a unique stage setup was as rewarding as it was challenging.

Dubbed ‘The Greatest Night in Motorsport,’ the Autosport Awards draws together the stars of the motorsport world at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane in London to celebrate the achievements of the years motor racing season.

The Autosport Awards night, with an ultra-wide screen and thrust stage setup, posed a unique challenge when creating the hours of content required for the event. In addition to curating the creative and music theme for the night, I managed the delivery of dozens of VTs, including animation and visual effects production.

For the 2017 event we were also asked to help produce a VT with a fully CGI car in order to keep the real winner of the Car of the Year award a secret. This was a fantastic challenge knowing the car would be scrutinized by industry experts on the night! Thankfully our hard work passed the test with several drivers commentating they had no idea the car was 100% visual effects.

In its 36th year, Motorsport Network’s premier event was once again a rollcall of the industry’s leading figures gracing the red carpet, including Jean Todt, President of motor racing’s governing body, and Toto Wolff, one of F1’s most successful team bosses who presides over the Mercedes F1 team.

The guest list of over 1,000 VIPs included legends of the sport from Mika Häkkinen to young race drivers taking up seats in top Formula 1 teams such as Charles Leclerc and Pierre Gasly.
